1.   ENABLING COMPACT DISC DIGITAL AUDIO (CDDA)
     ------------------------------------------

     With CDDA extraction enabled on your computer's operating 
     system, you do not have to use an audio cable to connect 
     your drive to your audio card. To enable CDDA, follow the 
     steps for your operating system below.
  
     1.1  For Windows 2000 and Windows XP

          1) Click Start -> Settings -> Control Panel.
	  2) In the Control Panel window, double-click the System 
	     icon.
	  3) In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware 
	     tab.
	  4) Click the Device Manager button.
	  5) Double-click the DVD/CD-ROM drives icon.
	     Your computer drives will appear.
	  6) Right-click the disk drive icon. A menu will appear.
	  7) Click Properties.
	  8) In the Digital CD Playback box of the next dialog box, 
	     click the Enable digital CD audio for this CD-ROM device
	     check box to select it.

     1.2  For Windows Millennium (Me)
                 
          1) Click Start -> Settings -> Control Panel.
	  2) In the Control Panel window, double-click the System 
	     icon.
	  3) In the System Properties dialog box, click the Device 
	     Manager tab.
	  4) Double-click the DVD/CD-ROM drives icon.
	     Your computer drives will appear.
	  5) Right-click the disk drive icon. A menu will appear.
	  6) Click Properties.
	  7) In the Digital CD Playback box of the next dialog box, 
	     click the Enable digital CD audio for this CD-ROM device
	     check box to select it.
	  8) Click the OK button.

     1.3  For Windows 98 Second Edition (SE)

          1) Click Start -> Settings -> Control Panel.
	  2) In the Control Panel window, double-click the Multimedia
	     icon.
	  3) In the Multimedia Properties dialog box, click the CD 
	     Music tab.
	  4) Click the Enable digital CD audio for this CD-ROM device
	     check box to select it.
	  5) Click the OK button.

2.   WINDOWS 98 SE PATCH INSTALLATION
     --------------------------------

     2.1  Installing the Patch

	  Perform the following steps after installing the ECTIVA 
	  Audio 5.1 audio drivers in Windows 98 SE, and after 
	  restarting your system.

	  1) Click Start --> Run.
	  2) Type d:\os patch\setup.exe in the Open box and then 
	     click the OK button (replace d:\ with the drive letter 
	     of your CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive).
    
3.   NOTES ON AUDIO PLAYBACK THROUGH ANALOG 5.1 SPEAKER SYSTEMS
     ----------------------------------------------------------

     3.1  Stereo Audio Files
	  Stereo (two-channel) audio files in WAV or MP3 format will
	  only be played back through two speaker channels (Front L/R) 
	  even if your analog 5.1 speaker system is connected to all 
	  three of the ECTIVA Audio 5.1 card's Line Out jacks.

     3.2  5.1 DVD Movie Audio
	  In order to play back 5.1 movie audio through all speaker 
	  channels in an analog 5.1 speaker setup, your software DVD 
	  decoding application has to support 5.1 output.

     3.3  3D Audio in Games
	  3D audio in games will be played back according to the
	  positional audio properties inherent in the game's 
	  audio track.
